Purpose
To allow a larger number of graduate students to work on
RSI-affilated projects; to allow RSI-affiliated research projects to
support Michigan Tech's mission in graduate education to a greater
extent; to enhance the ability of RSI faculty to attract top graduate
students.
Funding of the following types can be considered.
Stipend supplement provided as cost share at the time
a proposal is submitted or provided to assist in the recruitment
of an applicant who is exceptional (for specified reasons).
GRA cost-share provided at the time a proposal is submitted.
(See note under Expected Funding below).
One-semester partial or full GRA support for a new student under
the following conditions: the student is exceptional (for specified
reasons), and plans for support for the student for following
semesters are described.
(See note under Expected Funding below).
Who is eligible.
Graduate students working on RSI-affiliated
research projects or included on
RSI-affiliated proposals.
Application Procedure.
Requests may be submitted by the PI to the RSI Director,
using the RSI Grant
Request
form, and
describing how the request fits within the funding types
outlined above,
listing the specific request,
placing the request in the context of other graduate support
on the same or related grants, and
describing in broad terms the research project the student
will pursue (so its relationship to RSI can be determined).
Expected Funding. Approximately $10,000 per year.
Note: This amount will increase as RSI-related research activity
grows. For now, however, the amount budgeted is too small to
support even one full GRA. Therefore, only requests for
supplements and cost-shares can be considered at present.
(Please refer to RSI's overall budget
plans for an estimate of the total amount to be
awarded this year.)
Timeline
Requests will be responded to as quickly as possible. However,
please request as early as possible.
