  • Who is eligible.
Requirements for funding include the following.
    • The travel must be to a national or international meeting at which you are presenting your research (either via a poster or oral presentation).
    • Your research project must be affiliated with RSI,
      or,
it can be unaffiliated but fall within RSI's scope, if your advisor submits a note stating that (s)he feels that it will be appropriate to affiliate future projects with RSI.
    • Other potential funding sources (e.g., research grant(s) and the GSC Travel Grant) must be used first.

  • Application Procedure.
Apply by submitting an RSI Grant Request to the RSI Coordinator (L. Zelazny, Biology Dept.) with the following information. The application can be made by the graduate student and endorsed by the advisor, or submitted by the advisor.
    • Information on the meeting you are requesting support for (name, location, dates), and your presentation title and type (oral or poster).
    • List other funding sources that will be used to support the travel, or which have been requested and denied, or which have been requested and are pending. For example, you may wish to submit a GSC Travel request and an RSI travel request simultaneously, with a statement that you will charge RSI only the amount required if GSC funding is also provided.
    • The amount, or the maximum amount, of funding requested.
    • The deadline by which you must know of a funding decision, in order to make your travel plans.

  • Expected Funding. Travel grants will typically be in the range of $500 to $1,000. RSI's budget for these grants is quite limited. Therefore, priority will be given to requests that use RSI funds to supplement other sources of funding, such as the PI's incentive funds, or that minimize travel cost.

(Please refer to RSI's overall budget plans for an estimate of the total amount to be awarded this year.)

  • Timeline
Requests will be responded to as quickly as possible. However, please request travel support as early as possible.

  • Funding History
Past funding provided in this category since the start of RSI's internal grants program includes the following.
    • None.
